Alice admires Ash for his bravery and she appreciates him and his friends for sticking with her. Ash first met Peter Pan when he and his friends were assigned to help Wendy babysit her brothers while the parents were away.

During their time in Neverland, Ash slowly grew jealous of Peter due to his popularity and somehow became more like rivals than friends. After he reluctantly helped Peter save Tiger Lily from Captain Hook despite having difficulty cooperating with him, people including his own teammates began to ignore Ash and look up to Peter more often.

Feeling left out, Ash berated his friends for betraying him and not helping him when he needed them. This tension causes them to go their separate ways and split up, believing they're better off with Peter than with Ash. It wasn't until he learned about Captain Hook's plan of killing Peter with a time bomb wrapped in a box from Tinker Bell.

Ash puts his jealousy aside and saves Peter's life with Tinker Bell's help. While recovering from the explosion, Ash explained his dilemma to Peter and how much trouble his popularities had caused between him and his friends.

Though he was sympathetic, Peter asked why he never told him about it before. Ash replied that it was because he and Peter weren't friends before. Upon hearing that, Peter apologized for being a jerk and for hurting him immensely. He explains that he just loves having so much fun, especially when it comes to fighting Hook and his pirate crew.

Peter promises to be a better friend and be more considerate if he gives him another chance, which Ash happily agrees. Ash then apologizes to Peter for being a jerk and for being so jealous to him at Skull Rock, to which Peter forgives him for. Soon after reconciling, the boys spent a bit of time getting to know each other and made a friendly truce, ending their rivalry for good.

And out of deep gratitude and generosity for the remarkable hard work and effort he's done, Peter gave Ash something he wanted since coming to Neverland: the praise and recognition from its citizens, much to Ash's happiness.

Since then, Ash and Peter came to good terms and became much better friends. In the sequel, Ash and Peter's relationship seemed to have improved a lot since they've made their truce and became better friends. After rescuing Wendy's daughter, Jane Darling, from Hook, Ash told Peter that the pressures of World War II caused her to grow up too fast and lock away her inner child, making her become strict and cynical as her grandfather once was before her.

With that, he asked Peter and the Lost Boys to help Jane reunlock her inner child, show her how to have fun, lighten up, and open herself up to people so she can be friendlier, sociable, and happier. Peter and the Lost Boys were delighted they'd help, though it proved to be a more difficult task than Ash and Peter expected it to be. After Jane angrily blurted out that she didn't believe in Peter, magic and fairies, Tinker Bell started becoming sick and it made both Ash and Peter worried.

Upon learning that Tink's light will go out and die if they don't get Jane to reconsider her disbelief, it has become apparent that the situation is getting worse than he thought. Ash tells Peter that he and his friends will stay behind and look after Tinker Bell while he and the Lost Boys go out and look for Jane, to which Peter deeply appreciates. Peter even promised Ash that he and the boys will help Jane loosen up once they find her, which he did when they played a small game of treasure hunt.

However, in the midst of celebrating Jane becoming the first Lost Girl, the game turned out to be a trap formulated by Captain Hook, which resulted in Peter Pan and the Lost Boys getting themselves captured and taken to the Jolly Roger.

Luckily, Jane quickly rushed back to Hangman's Tree to alert Ash and his friends about Peter's plight after helping to restore Tinker Bell's light. Upon hearing the shocking news, Ash was angry at Jane for disobeying his orders to stay away from Hook and putting Peter's life at risk.

But seeing how remorseful Jane was when she broke down in tears and admitted that she wants to make things right, he naturally forgave her.

Ash now became incredibly desperate to go save his former rival from the deranged pirate who wanted to kill him so badly. However, Ash knew they're gonna need as much help they could get. So, they travelled to Mermaid Lagoon and the Indian Camp respectively to speak to the inhabitants and lend them a helping hand in rescuing Peter. With that, the mermaids provided aquatic weapons while the Indians provided arrows, bows, war paint, axes, and spears for the five heroes to use.

Then they sent the cowardly pirate along with his crew packing, never to return and taunt Peter and the boys ever again. In deep gratitude for the daring rescue, Peter escorted Ash, Jane, Pikachu, and their friends back home to London on Earth.

After Peter spent a time to see Wendy alone, Ash took Danny to see Peter fly away where they said goodbye, promising to see each other again one day. Though throughout the movie, Ash and Tinker Bell didn't interact much. But he was deeply shocked that she purposely tried to hurt Wendy when she made the Lost Boys shoot her down upon arriving in Neverland.

It wasn't until they finally interacted with each other during the climax of the movie where she alerted him about Peter's immediate danger of Hook's time bomb implanted in his hideout, ready to explode. With that, she quickly led Ash to Hangman's Tree and helped him save Peter's life from the horrific blast. But at the cost of her own life. Miraculously, the blast didn't kill Tinker Bell, but mortally wound her. Not wanting to let Tinker Bell die, Ash selflessly risked his life to find a way out of the rubble so that everyone can escape safely before the ruined hideout collapses.

Because of Ash's selflessness and newfound belief, Tinker Bell's light is restored and is healed. After a while, Ash and Peter spent a bit of time getting to know each other while also reconciling for their past behavior. In the process, Tinker Bell felt sympathetic towards Ash upon hearing the story of the troubles he's been through during his stay in Neverland while also beginning to enjoy his company. Tinker Bell then apologizes to Ash for attempting to hurt Wendy upon arriving to Neverland.

But Ash, having surprisingly matured upon saving Peter from the explosion, humbly forgave her for her actions and tells her that he relates to her in some way. He tells her that he knows what it feels to hold a grudge against someone who's better than anyone else and he's been through all that with Peter. It was because of Tinker Bell that helped Ash open up to Peter and completely changed him for the better.

And due to that, he was grateful to her for doing that. In the sequel, Ash became more loyal to Tinker Bell than ever when her light was starting to go out due to Jane's arrogant disbelief in magic and fairies. He and his friends were assigned to look after her while Peter and the Lost Boys go look for Jane. Wendy felt sympathetic for Ash when Misty and Brock picked Peter Pan over him and his influence caused a tension between them.

But after hearing about Ash's brave action of saving Peter Pan's life from Hook's deadly time bomb explosion with Tinker Bell's help, Wendy was deeply touched and mighty grateful for his bravery. When Ash attempts to apologize to Wendy for snapping at her at the Indian camp, she kindly forgives him and tells him she understood his feelings to why he was angry.

She then praised Ash for putting aside his jealousy and showing Peter Pan the meaning of cooperation, teamwork, compassion, and understanding. She then said to him that seeing him team up with Peter to defeat Hook had made her see that he matured spectacularly and it made her very proud of him.

Ash initially had a rocky start with Jane. After witnessing a heated argument between her mother and little brother, Daniel, Ash decided to speak with Jane alone. Jane calmly explained that because of the pressures of the war, she tried to change herself by growing up at a fast pace and show her mother that she's very grown-up. And due to that, she never had time for fun, games, nor listen to her mother's Peter Pan stories.

Seeing that she's making the same mistakes her grandfather made, he tells her the story about practical, disbelieving and strict her grandfather was before her. He then ends the conversation that if she doesn't change for the better, she'll never find purpose in life. Later that night, Ash witnessed Jane being abducted by Captain Hook through the reflection in the bathroom mirror, alerts his friends, and stowed away his ship back to Neverland.

With Peter Pan's help, they saved Jane just in time. While helping Jane to fly, Ash told Jane to always stay away from Captain Hook and never fall for any of his trickery, to which Jane thought that was just him telling her one of her mother's nonsensical Peter Pan stories.

Jane slowly began to warm up during her stay. However, because of her strict, no-nonsense attitude she got from the war, things went from bad to worse when she was unable to fly and angrily blurted out that she didn't believe in magic, Peter Pan, and fairies. After spending a night on her own, she bumped into Captain Hook and was tricked into making a deal of finding his treasure and in return will give her a ride home to London, inadvertently disobeying Ash in the process. The next day, she slowly starts to warm up to Peter Pan and the Lost Boys when they played a game of treasure hunt.

After finding the treasure, she threw the whistle away and decided not to honor Hook's request. Peter and the boys praised Jane for finding the treasure and named her as the very first Lost Girl. However, Tootles found the whistle and blew it, inexplicably setting Hook's trap and getting Peter and the boys captured. Peter believed that Jane is a liar and a traitor and due to her not believing in fairies, Tinker Bell's light was going out.

Upon hearing this, she rushed to Hangman's Tree as fast as she could. But she arrived too late to save her. Ash somberly tells her that Tinker Bell's light went out. But Jane's newfound change in her miraculously brought Tinker Bell to life.

However, there was not much time for celebrating. Jane told Ash and his friends about Peter Pan and the Lost Boys getting captured by Captain Hook and that she unintentionally made them fall in Hook's trap after encountering him. Hearing this, Ash gave Jane the punishment she deserved when he angrily and rightfully scolded her for deliberately disobeying him, not heeding his warnings, and letting Hook take advantage of her no-nonsense personality so he can destroy Peter Pan.

Jane remorsefully and tearfully apologizes to Ash and his friends for causing so much trouble and begs them to help save Peter Pan. Ash, upon seeing how remorseful she is and how much she misses her family, reluctantly forgives her and says that they'll help her rescue Peter Pan on one condition.

It is to promise to always loosen up and have fun, never be practical and strict, and don't grow up too fast, which she does promise with a pinky swear. Upon celebrating their victory, Jane finally showed her kind, gentle nature she kept bottled up inside for a long time when she tended Ash's cut on his shoulder he got from his fight with Hook. Afterwards, Peter escorted everyone back to London. Now completely rejuvenated and changed for the better, Jane happily started telling Danny stories of her adventures in Neverland.

Jane then takes her brother to the window to see Peter Pan and Tinker Bell fly away and tells Peter that she'll always believe in him. She then asks Ash about the story he told her and finally understood what he was talking about. He was talking about her grandfather, George Darling and asked how'd he knew about him. Ash simply replied that it's a gift and tells him that he was there and witnessed it all with his friends.

He then tells her that the reason he told her about her grandfather was that he didn't want her life to end up like his when he lost his childhood. She then embraced him with a hug and thanked him for changing her.

Jane then asked Ash if he could tell her his stories about his first encounter with Peter Pan, which he's very much obliged to since he knows she'll be telling his story to the next generation one day.

Moments later, her father, Edward Darling, returned home from the war and Jane joyfully decided to introduce Ash, Misty, and Brock to him. Ash forms a brotherly bond with Arthur. He felt sorry for Arthur since he's treated harshly by his foster father Sir Ector and he is not treated nicely by his older foster brother Kay. Ash defends Arthur from evil witch named Madam Mim. Ash felt proud of Arthur when he became the king of England.

Merlin acts like a grandfather figure towards Ash and his friends. Merlin is impressed with Ash's stories about his pervious adventures and his bravery. Ash is deeply appalled when Sir Ector accused Merlin of using black magic. Merlin is fond of Ash's Pikachu. Ash formed a friendship with the fairies.

When Ash felt ashamed for failing to protect Aurora the fairies comfort him. Flora calmed Ash down when he growled at Maleficent in anger. Ash and his friends never met nor knew Prince Phillip until Aurora mentioned him to them and was planning to meet up with him at the cottage on the evening of her 16th birthday. At first, they misunderstood her, thinking that she's fallen in love with someone else and that she's denying her arranged marriage.

They inadvertently hurt Aurora's feelings by telling her that she'll never see Phillip again, causing her to break down and cry in depression. When taking her back to the castle, Aurora was still depressed. However, when Aurora was lured into Maleficent's trap and fallen under her dreaded curse she received as an infant, Ash and the gang, with the help of the fairies, placed the kingdom in a sleeping spell until she's awakened. Remorseful for the terrible mistake they've made, they've rushed back to inform Prince Phillip.

However, when they got to the cottage, they found the place wrecked up and Phillip's hat lying on the floor. The group deducted that Maleficent had beaten them to it, abducted Phillip, and taken him to the Forbidden Mountain as prisoner to prevent him from kissing Aurora. Because of that, Ash and the gang realized the trouble their misunderstandings had caused and that it's their fault for putting both Aurora and Phillip in danger.

Determined to make it up to Aurora and set things right for the better, Ash has the fairies lead everyone to the Forbidden Mountain. Once they got there, Ash leads the group on a rescue mission to find Prince Phillip and get him out.

After busting him out of the dungeon, they explained the whole story to the prince and the fairies wielded him with a shield and sword. While escaping the castle, Ash, his friends, and the fairies help Phillip ward off the goons and avoid several obstacles so he can get to Aurora's tower. However, they were challenged and faced off in a deadly battle with Maleficent in her dragon form.

Though, Ash wanted to help, the fairies told him that Phillip can handle her and is brave enough. In a last ditch effort, Ash commanded the fairies to make Phillip's sword stronger with an enchantment that powerful enough to destroy any traces of evil.

Which turned out to be a successful outcome of the battle as it was powerful enough to destroy Maleficent for good. After that, Ash and his friends led Phillip to the tower where Aurora is sleeping and lets him kiss her to break the curse so they can live happily ever after. It might have assumed that Phillip and Aurora forgave Ash and his friends for misunderstanding them and for putting them in danger.

When Ash first met Goliath he felt nervous he at first thought he and his clan are going to eat him. Goliath kindly assures Ash that he and his clan mean him no harm. Once Ash got to know Goliath alot more he serves as a father figure towards him and he kindly addressed Ash as a son.

Goliath and Ash form a father-son like bond since they're both leaders. Ash would often help Goliath and his clan defeat Demona and the other villains who attempt to kill him and his clan.

Goliath often carries Ash safely in his arms whenever he's in danger or get's injured. Goliath sometimes tells Ash to get behind him. Goliath often calms Ash down when he's angry, scared or frustrated. Golaith is deeply fond of Ash's Pikachu and he often pets him gently. Goliath would often comfort Ash when he's really sad.

When Goliath cautions Ash not to go anywhere near his ex-mate Demona since she hated humans and told him that if he tried to reason with Demona she'll kill him, Ash agreed to stay far away from Demona as possible and he kept his promise to never, ever leave Goliath's side.

Angela acts like a older sister towards Ash. She often saves Ash from her mother Demona. Angela is fond of Ash's Pikachu. Ash and Angela were both annoyed with Brookyln, Broadway and Lexington fighting over her. Brookyln formed a brotherly bond with Ash. Brookyln felt impressed with Ash's Pikachu shocking Demona and the other villains. Brookyln often affectionately addressed Ash little buddy.

Broadway and Ash form a brotherly bond. Broadway is often saddened to see Ash injured and he sometimes carry him in his arms. Lexington forms a brotherly bond with Ash. Lexington is fond of Ash's Pikachu. Lexington and Ash often high-five each other while praising each other. When Ash first met Bronx he felt very nervous but he quickly warms up as Bronx takes a quick liking to him.

Ash often rides on Bronx's back whenever there's danger. When Ash first met Kronk, he wasn't terribly trustful towards him due to the fact that he teamed up with Yzma in a plot to kill his friend, Kuzco.

However, when he sees the true gentle giant he really is when he hangs out with Pacha's kids as well as helping other people with their problems, Ash realized Kronk isn't such a bad guy after all. Ash formed a friendship with Bernard. The point of any good rivalry is to see the coaches grow and change with each fight.

Ash and Gary fought for the first time before reaching the Johto region. At first, Paul is mostly indifferent to Ash, seeing him as completely absurd and unimportant. Just losing to the Indigo League competition pushes Gary on his own path of self-discovery. His compelling Orange Isles arc brings him to maturity when he reappears, but it happens almost entirely off-screen.

Gary leaves Ash an overconfident jerk, but reappears as a mature and experienced coach. That ideological difference hides the fact that Paul and Ash have several similarities. That from there shows that while their actions are similar, their intentions leave them on opposite sides of the fence.

In comparison, Gary and Ash have few similarities. In his more youthful days, Oak was known far and wide as a great trainer; rival and friend to Indigo Elite Four member Agatha.

Prospective opponents should tread lightly, however, as the professor has quite the diverse and well-trained team. Needless to say, Oak is one of the toughest and most well-rounded trainers in the entire series. It is said, both in the anime as well as the manga, that Ash was the first person in the history of the Orange League to defeat Drake. At least, that is how the script went until he faced Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town. Drake features quite the well-rounded team with the likes of Onix, Gengar, Electabuzz, and Venusaur all making valuable contributions in battle.

Each of his creatures fills an area of need and masks weaknesses left by their respective teammates, making Drake one of the greatest all-time trainers. Due to that fact, numerous characters on this list are regarded as dragon-type specialists, Iris being the first to appear on our countdown.

In the video game series, the protagonist comes across Iris several times. With various dragon types — Salamence, Hydreigon, and Haxorus — at her disposal, it is not difficult to see why she is so successful. In the anime, Iris is not quite as formidable as her gaming persona, and it is unclear as to whether these are separate universes entirely or simply a younger version of the same character. As the leader of the nefarious Team Rocket, Giovanni is easily the strongest trainer of the villainous bunch.

As a result, his teams generally contain some glaring weaknesses, but he is still an expert trainer nonetheless. Despite Gary being Ash's rival throughout Kanto, they never once actually battled in that region. On the other hand, Paul's battles with Ash result in Ash growing as a trainer. At first, Paul is mostly indifferent to Ash, seeing him as entirely absurd and unimportant. Paul's biggest swing in characterization is when he loses a battle to Brandon, and he starts to question his methods and begins to see Ash in a new light.

When looking back at Ash's first rivalry, Gary is not really a foil in the way Paul is. Gary is just an arrogant brat who's better than Ash, which leaves him incredibly frustrated and angry every step of the way. It's only losing at the Indigo League competition that pushes Gary on his own path of self-discovery. His compelling Orange Islands arc leads to maturity when he re-emerges -- but it happens almost entirely off-screen.
