Elie Wiesel was summoned to the dentist in Night because he had a gold crown on one of his teeth. We can still remember- still imagine how terrible it was. He got them taken away anyway, without a trade. It seems like an odd system to have prisoners watching prisoners, but the system worked because men like the gypsy would enforce Nazi concentration camp order in hopes of receiving better treatment from the Nazis.

In order to create a good narrative, you must build suspense. Another way that writers build suspense is by building rising action after the introduction of the major conflict.

In this chapter, Wiesel creates suspense by describing several situations in which he is in danger. How did Elie and his father avoid being transported?

They never signed up as a skilled workers. Finally Elie and his father were moved, where were they taken. As he goes around looking for his son, Elie remembers how he had seen the rabbi's son abandon him during the winter march.

Elie prays that he does not become like the rabbi's son. Meir : On the winter transfer to Buchenwald, he kills his father over a morsel of bread. After he snatches the bread from his father, he himself is killed by other men. Meir Katz: A friend of Elie's father, he is one of the strongest in the camp.

Elie's father calls for Meir's help when Elie is choked during the night. Near the end of the trip to Buchenwald, Meir starts to lose hope and tells Elie's father that he cannot make it.
